Technical information
Writer is an unconnected script typeface written with a flat felt tip marker. The bevelled tip is natural for calligraphy. It allows for better grip ergonomics and a more flexible slant in the fingers and wrist. Option B is to use a writing tool with a straight tip, but it requires more experience and slightly changes the overall character.
Writer is one of my handwritten hand-outs from master's thesis (2016). I still use it in lettering workshops to teach how to turn the marker to achieve specific angle and stroke contrast. The principle of this script typeface is simple. The main stem, which determines the slope of the entire typeface, is led from the top right corner to the bottom left corner at an angle of about 60°. This slant makes it very swift and flexible to write. The oval strokes need speed so that the start and exit strokes overlap beautifully, and it is almost impossible to tell where the letter begins.
All the glyphs can be written in two or three brisk strokes at first, and by gradually simplifying the shape, adding speed, and increasing confidence in writing, the script can be brought to a form where each letter is written with only one single stroke. This also changes the character of the typeface: from the more geometrically austere through the freely written to the calligraphic. I chose the first rigid one to serve as a guide so that everyone can further adapt to their writing style. The final calligraphic form is up to the author and represents one way they can develop the hand-out.
The digitized script has strongly stylized strokes compared to the handwritten model. The primary stroke consists of a flat ellipsis (the impression of the felt tip marker), which makes a higher contrast. In the round strokes, there is a crease inside the eyes. The shapes of the lowercase a, b, d, p, and q are made without straight ascenders or descenders. Do not look for superfluous glyphs or features, the font is peculiar enough. Writer is suitable for menu signs and boards in cafes, bistros and restaurants. I'm curious to see how you gonna use it!

Typeface Writer was used for multiple handwritten signboards at Grils, a grill restaurant in Prague, from 2018 to 2020. The staff learned the script during a workshop and applied it across various boards until the restaurant closed in 2020. The location is now home to the renowned restaurant Bufet, where I provided the same service, but with a different script style.
