Custom font: Monolina RTL XL

I had the privilege of customizing my Monolina typeface for RTL XL, RTL’s video streaming service for their TV shows. The revamped visual identity, along with the renewed web and app platform, was a collaborative effort between RTL’s digital team, Triple IT, and Wunder.

The new identity features a flexible line element adaptable to any shape or size, making Monolina’s monolinear design a perfect fit. I developed three custom styles: Monolina RTL XL Regular, featuring extensive glyph upgrades; Monolina Line, designed to seamlessly integrate with connecting graphic lines; and Monolina Dot, where each word ends with a fixed dot for a distinct finish. Together, these styles contribute to a vibrant handwritten typeface in gradient colors, emphasizing connection and personality.

Specification

The original Monolina glyphs underwent significant upgrades. I simplified uppercase letters by removing intricate details to enhance readability and achieve a coherent look. In the lowercase, nearly every glyph was remodelled: ascenders were shortened, descenders adjusted, and some characters entirely redesigned. These refinements are reflected across all three final styles, ensuring a cohesive and improved type family.
